Internship (Paying Volunteer)

Job description

Long term volunteers qualify for our reduced Internship rate:

Monthly fees: 1 – 6 months @ 15000Rand per month. Next 7 – 12 months @ 10000R per month.

This programme offers the opportunity to be fully embedded within our care team. Be involved with animal husbandry: local wildlife care and Primates (Vervet Monkey and Chacma Baboon). Daily care of all our resident Primates. Food preparation, feeding and caring for the babies and disabled residents. Daily cleaning of enclosures and Farm. All daily duties involved with the running of a busy Bushveld Farm.

You will be involved in “The 3 Big Rs” – Rescue, Rehabilitate, Release. Responding to emergency calls notifying us of Vervets (mainly) and other wildlife in need of our facility. Assisting our Medic with TRIAGE and medical care. Including intensive care if needed, and aftercare.

During baby season, you will assist with Vervet orphans rescued in to our care. Rotating on shift daily in our Nursery. Helping with bottle feeds, keeping the Nursery clean and sanitary. Rotating on night duties, sleeping alongside the babies. All providing the love, support and security they need to heal from the trauma that has led them to arrive at Bambelela.

Duration 2 months - 3 years.
