About The University of Buckingham

Close to London and Oxford, The University of Buckingham offers postgraduate courses in Medicine, Psychology, Law, Business, Computing, Education and Humanities. The University was established via a Royal Charter and places students at the heart of the learning experience. With Oxbridge-style tutorials, we keep class sizes small to ensure every student can thrive here.

The University has recently been shortlisted for the ‘University of the Year’ award and ranked top ten university in the South East of England in the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024 which is a tribute to our dynamic leadership and independent stance.

We are the home not only to some of the most well-known research-active academics in their fields, but also to numerous keen research students reading for postgraduate degrees in their specialist areas.

From molecular and genetic research into diabetes, to the psychological importance of music and the effects of government proposals on state and independent education, research underpins the lives of many of our academics here at the University. We have specialist research groups set up in different fields, as well as independent research published by solo academics following their own interests.

Postgraduate study at Buckingham

We believe in a high-quality education delivered with passion and focus on imparting useful and relevant knowledge.

We offer a wide range of master’s degrees, including MSc, MA, MBA and LLM courses. We also offer a number of other postgraduate taught courses, including short courses, postgraduate certificates, graduate diplomas and courses in Education. Taught courses have a similar amount of contact (teaching) time as an undergraduate degree. They are made up of a range of modules that are delivered through lectures, seminars and tutorials, and will enable you to develop a higher level of expertise.

We also offer a range of research courses, spanning master’s, PhD and professional doctorates. Postgraduate research degrees are based around independent learning, working one-on-one with a supervisor (so have a lot less contact time than taught courses), and are more specialised.

The Good University Guide 2022 ranked us in the top 10 in the UK for Teaching Quality. We keep class sizes small, so you won’t get lost in the crowd. You will be assigned a personal tutor to support you every step of the way, and our academic and student support teams will ensure you have the tools to succeed in your studies.

Our dedication to teaching quality and student life has resulted in us being rated highly by our students and in national surveys. We are proud that the Good University Guide 2023 ranked us top 10 in the UK for Student Satisfaction and The National Student Survey 2023 ranked us 1st for Mental Wellbeing Services and 1st for Freedom of Expression. Nothing is more important to us than happy students.
