Marketing courses
Whether you want to do an online course, a degree or a professional certificate, gaining the right training is vital for success in the marketing, advertising and PR industry
As new technologies emerge further study can help you to keep on top of these and any other developments in the sector. Even if you already work in the industry, further study can be fitted around your job through distance learning and flexible courses. Many companies also offer support for employees studying professional qualifications.
Marketing degrees
According to the Guardian's University Guide 2022 there are more than 800 undergraduate courses in the UK with a major marketing component. While some are combined with related fields such as economics, psychology, design or fashion, there are standalone marketing options. For example, you could choose to study the BA (Hons) Marketing at the University of Liverpool, Nottingham Trent University or Bath Spa University to name a few.
You could also expand your knowledge further by studying a postgraduate marketing course. While this isn’t essential to getting a job, it can improve your chances of employment in a competitive industry and widen your pool of contacts, giving you an advantage over undergraduate candidates.
Postgraduate marketing courses are available at a variety of universities. You could study a general marketing course to keep your options open, such as the:
- MSc Marketing, The University of Manchester
- MSc Marketing, The London School of Economics and Political Science
- MSc Marketing, University of Birmingham
Alternatively, if you'd like to study a particular area of marketing in more depth you could choose a more specific course such as:
- MA Fashion Marketing, University of Portsmouth
- MSc Marketing Management Practice, University of Sheffield
- MSC International Marketing, University of Surrey
Whatever degree you choose it's worth checking to see if it's accredited by a professional body. Not only will this mean that the course is recognised for its quality across the industry, it could also make you exempt from having to study some further marketing qualifications at entry level.
