Here are five suggestions to help keep you productive over the Christmas period (yes, even relaxing counts)

1. Revise

Once Christmas is out the way exam season is on the horizon so it's never too early to start preparing. Read up on how to revise for exams. If you give yourself plenty of time you can afford to start small with rereading lecture and seminar notes.

If you have looming assignment deadlines for January, now also might be a good time to get a head start on these. Discover how to write an essay.

2. Volunteer

Christmas is a time of giving so why not give your time to a worthy cause? You could volunteer to visit the elderly in care homes, take calls for a charity helpline, help at a food bank, prepare and serve food at a soup kitchen or assist at a local animal shelter. Do some research to see what’s available in your area.

3. Master a new skill/pick up a hobby

Like volunteering this is another activity that will look great on your CV. The period between Christmas and new year (where you never know what day it is) is the perfect time to start a new hobby or begin learning a new skill that you can carry through into 2023.

4. Apply for internships or graduate jobs

Depending on what stage you're at in your study journey you could use this break from studying to really concentrate on crafting solid applications for internships or graduate jobs.  Learn more about applying for jobs.

5. Relax

Let's not forget that the Christmas break is also a time for you to rest and recharge your batteries so you're ready and raring to go in the new term. You have enough to juggle during term time with assignments, deadlines and extra-curricular commitments so try not to overload yourself.

Spend some quality time with family and friends, do things you enjoy and partake in all the festivities.

The Prospects team wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
