BAE Systems do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected on our Summer Intern Programme you will be required to attend your site 3-4 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.
What you will be doing
In the 12 months you will be with us you will gain knowledge and experience of the analytical methods that ensure our products are safe and effective for human use. You’ll work on anthropometry and sensory capabilities and learn about the effects of stress, workplace design, information and control requirement definition within human machine interfaces and environmental ergonomics.
As a Human Factors engineer, you’ll help to ensure our products are safe, and operable, accessible and habitable for the effective for human user.
We also provide the opportunity to get involved in projects outside of your primary remit. We encourage you to seek a stretch project in which you’ll gain different experiences. Additionally, we encourage involvement in community projects, STEM initiatives and support groups (called employee resource groups) which all provide valuable learning and development experiences that you may not have access to in your day-to-day role.

Specific activities could include:
Human Factors (HF) engineers support the Human Engineering process by applying specific knowledge and analytical methods covering the full breadth width of the HF skill set to optimise the interaction between the ensure the resulting a system/service and its operator is enabling them to able to fulfil their mission, perform its mission and, achieve its their goals and be supported in it’s within the given operational environment. This includes consideration of human characteristics (anthropometry, sensory capabilities, etc.) and the effects of stress, workplace and work station design, display of information and control room and interface design requirement.
