Over the course of two years, you’ll learn that civil and structural engineering is all about people. It’s about making public services and facilities better and everyone’s everyday life easier.

From building the next generation of nuclear power stations to supporting the Royal Navy, your work here will have a real impact on making our world safer, simpler and better connected.

Civil and Structural Engineering at Babcock

On our three-year programme, you’ll gain the broadest exposure to company-based accounting and financial management. You’ll undertake 12 month rotations, with roles spanning project, management and financial accounting. You’ll work with teams on projects aligned to many different sectors, which will give you the kind of experiences and insights that are very hard to come by.

Every step of the way, you will be mentored towards Chartered Management Accountants status. We’ll support you to gain Associate of Chartered Management Accountants (ACMA) status, offered by CIMA. You’ll learn either through a tuition provider or via distance learning.

The company uses Kaplan to support our finance graduates through their CIMA studies and you will complete this utilising the Level 7 Accounting/Taxation Professional – CIMA Master’s Degree apprenticeship standard.

No matter which team you join, you could be based anywhere in the UK. That’s why we ask all our graduates to be flexible and willing to move during their programme.

Cavendish Nuclear

Cavendish Nuclear is a core part of Babcock International Group’s Nuclear Sector. We provide a comprehensive range of critical nuclear solutions across the markets of Clean Energy, Defence and Civil Decommissioning, both in the UK and internationally. From decommissioning redundant nuclear facilities, through supporting the Continuous at Sea Deterrent, to supporting the operation and build of nuclear power plants, our role in Cavendish Nuclear is to clean up the nuclear legacy and create a world where nuclear plays a key contribution in protecting our nation, ensuring security of energy supply and meeting our net zero commitments.

You could be based in a number of locations, you’ll probably call Glasgow, Bristol, Warrington, Leicester or Rosyth home, but you could also work from client sites (including new and existing nuclear power stations, Sellafield, Dounreay, Devonport, Rosyth and Clyde).

Nuclear – Plymouth

Our business in Plymouth works in partnership with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Royal Navy at HM Naval Base Devonport. We provide through-life support for submarines, surface ships and associated systems and equipment as part of our continuing commitment to support our nation’s naval capability.

Depending on your programme, your home base could be Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. However, some of your placements may be at other Babcock sites.

Nuclear – Clyde

As part of our Nuclear sector, Babcock’s HMNB Clyde operation provides highly specialist engineering support services, including the management of critical infrastructure and nuclear facilities. We also deliver operational maintenance, upgrades and repairs to support Royal Navy vessels, including the Vanguard and Astute-Class nuclear submarines based in Scotland.

What we are looking for

A BEng (Hons) degree is vital. And because the programme is accredited by the IMechE, IET, RINA, ICE, our preference is that your degree is also accredited by the relevant institution too.
