Want to kickstart your career in engineering design? Join our 4-year Engineering Design Apprenticeship and you’ll gain hands-on experience bringing innovative engineering projects to life on a global scale.
About the programme
As part of our engineering team, you'll work alongside experienced professionals across three key disciplines: Electrical, Control and Instrumentation; Mechanical; and Naval Architecture.
You'll dive into the world of cutting-edge technology, collaborating on 3D modelling, 2D drawings, calculations, and innovative technical solutions for customer projects in the Marine sector.
You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects such as new builds and upgrades to existing vessels, along with other commercial engineering projects.
Rotating through placements, you'll develop well-rounded expertise and gain experience in a whole range of tasks including:
- Conceptual and detailed design drawings
- 3D modelling
- Performing calculations
- Developing technical reports
- Applying codes, standards and procedures.
With the guidance and training from our team of experts, you'll gain all the skills you need to become a qualified Electrical, Control and Instrumentation, Mechanical, or Naval Architecture Designer.
At the end of the 4-year programme, you'll be equipped to embark on an exciting design career where you can actively contribute to designing the future of defence technology.
What you’ll need
- Higher Grade Maths along with one additional Higher subject such as Graphic Communications or Engineering Science, with a grade of C or above.
- 4 National Grades (4 or 5) in Maths, English, Physics, and one other related subject (or equivalent).

Training
You'll earn a National Certificate through Fife College in a suitable Design Discipline that aligns with our functional model. Plus, there could be a chance to advance to an HNC in your chosen field, complementing your on-site training and experience.
