Job description
Your placement year at university could not have come at a more exciting time.
An undergraduate scheme at JLR is specifically designed to prepare you for a successful, long-term career with us. Surrounded by an innovative and dedicated team of industry experts, you’ll apply your learning and satisfy your curiosity for what’s possible.
Arrive curious. Discover opportunity.
Commercial
Our Commercial team is constantly evolving to ensure we continue to offer differentiated, modern luxury brands that attract and retain customers in a fast-changing digital world. With a new organisational structure to deliver our Reimagine strategy, we are focusing on the key pillars of growth, digital transformation, simplicity and go to market.
Meanwhiie, our house of brands teams are responsible for defining our commercial vision across the Range Rover, Defender, Discovery and Jaguar portfolios – each iconic and each with its own interpretation of modern luxury.
On the Commercial Undergraduate Programme, you can decide to work within our core Commercial team or Commercial Analytics team. You will be allocated to a department based on personal preferences and business needs.
Commercial Undergraduate Programme
Our Commercial function is undergoing a profound transformation to drive simplicity, achieve growth and realise our go to market strategy. We’re here to make customers smile at every touchpoint – and you will play a pivotal role in making this happen.
The Commercial Undergraduate scheme provides real insight into working at JLR, giving you fundamental business and digital skills, whilst allowing you the insight to choose the graduate scheme that matches your talents and interests after successful completion of the undergraduate scheme.
As you help to plan, grow and fine-tune our business, you will undertake two different placements with digital and business teams, whilst delivering a transformation mission as part of a group. From day one, you can expect real impact on the way we think and work.
Commercial Analytics Undergraduate Programme
At the heart of our data analytics team, you will grow your technical analytics and data science skills and gain a deep understanding of tools and data inputs and outputs. However, these are far from purely technical roles – we will ensure you understand the broader strategic context that will enable you to turn theoretical potential into real-life business value. In short, you will learn how to make the complicated simple and relatable, setting you up for a wide range of roles. The insight you gain into machine learning, visualisation and data engineering will open up endless possibilities with JLR – so the only limit on your progress will be your ambition.
Rewards and benefits
Our 2024 undergraduate programme salary will be £21,377. You’ll also enjoy a generous holiday allowance, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, an excellent pension scheme and access to a wide range of deals and discounts from retailers and sports clubs.
You will be applying your curiosity and creativity every day as you begin to hone your skills for a successful, impactful career. You own your development, and only you can make it happen. We’ll be right by your side in your pursuit of exceptional, and we’ll give you all the encouragement and support you need.
What we are looking for
You will need to be on track to achieve at least a 2.2 degree in mechanical, electronic, software, chemical, aeronautical, automotive, materials or environmental engineering, aerospace computer science, mechatronics, maths or physics.
In addition, you will have a real passion for problem-solving and the curiosity to understand business challenges and deliver innovative solutions. You will also have strong numerical and interpersonal skills and the confidence to champion new initiatives.
Please note that our undergraduate placement opportunities are open only to penultimate-year students (those who will be returning to their final year of study or on an integrated master’s after their placement with us).
