Vehicle Programmes Engineering Graduate

Job description

A graduate programme at JLR gives you access to some of the most innovative and visionary industry experts, networking opportunities and invaluable industry insight. By the time you finish the programme, you’ll play a vital part in JLR’s future and build the exceptional long-term career you’ve proved you're capable of.

Arrive with ambition. Grow with freedom.

Vehicle Programmes Graduate Programme

Vehicle Programmes offers a truly cross-functional experience spanning product strategy, programme management, business performance, cross-carline and commodity strategy, and programme purchasing.

You will use your innovation and creativity to the full every day, as you develop all the skills for a fast-moving career. With ongoing support from industry-leading experts, backed by continual learning opportunities, you’ll quickly realise that our programmes are as inspiring as the vehicles you’ll help to create.

During your programme, you could initially be assigned to one of three key areas below or placed within our company quality team. Along the way, you will gain a customer-centric view of satisfying evolving needs and accelerating delivery to reduce time-to-market, using Agile principles to transform the way we think and work.

Programme Management

This team’s purpose is to integrate the enterprise to deliver commercially successful products on time and to quality standards, which fulfil our brand and customer promise throughout their lifecycles. As such, we work with all areas across JLR to realise our product programmes, so roles with us give great exposure to the entire business.

Business Performance

Business Performance optimises our vehicles’ profitability and ensures that they remain highly competitive in a rapidly evolving marketplace. To make this happen, you will identify growth opportunities, support risk mitigation actions and improve our vehicles’ margins, using data insights to develop focused plans addressing a balanced mix of market, revenue and cost opportunities.

Transformation

Bringing our Reimagine strategy to life, the Transformation team leads the delivery of far-reaching workstreams that will profoundly change the way we think and work. In particular, you will support our adoption of agile methodologies in product delivery, spanning both strategy and implementation.

Company Quality

High quality is the key to ensuring that we deliver our vision of being proud creators of modern luxury. Company Quality underpins the whole enterprise to deliver the operational framework and touches all parts of the vehicle lifecycle – from creation right through to runout, including digital and transformation.

After a significant learning period, there will be regular opportunities to move around product compliance and learn about other areas of quality and the business – this could be in regulation, certification, conformity of production (CoP) or investigations. Wherever you are based, you will quickly gain a deep understanding of regulatory change whilst working with engineering colleagues to ensure certification adherence, developing CoP plans for every vehicle, and investigating and resolving any compliance escapes.

Rewards and benefits

Our 2024 graduate programme salary is £31,000, with a £2,000 joining bonus to welcome you to JLR. After two years, you will progress from the graduate programme on a £38,000 salary. In addition, JLR offer a generous holiday allowance, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, excellent pension provisions and access to a wide range of deals and discounts from well-known retailers and sports clubs.

Once you’ve successfully completed your graduate programme, you can look forward to a long-term career with us. The role you take on will depend on your performance, personal preferences and business needs.

You will be applying your curiosity and creativity every day as you begin to hone your skills for a successful, impactful career. You own your development, and only you can make it happen. We’ll be right by your side in your pursuit of exceptional, and we’ll give you all the encouragement and support you need.

Your future starts here.

What we are looking for

You will need to hold or be on track to achieve at least a 2.2 degree in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) discipline (not including biology or life sciences).

We are particularly interested in hearing from mechanical engineering and industrial manufacturing engineering students but will also consider aeronautical and automotive engineering students if you have a strong interest in manufacturing.

In addition, you will have a real passion for problem-solving and the curiosity to understand business challenges and deliver innovative solutions. You will also have strong numerical and interpersonal skills and the confidence to champion new initiatives.
